Stanard School

MWA was commissioned by a local developer to study the possible renovation / restoration of the Stanard School buildings to be reused as loft-style apartment buildings. Located in a residential pocket of the St. Clair - Superior district, these buildings were the oldest remaining educational structures in the city. Built in 1885, the older of the two structures was designed by John Eisenmann, the architect of the Cleveland Arcade and the designer of our state flag.

The Phase I renovation was designed to house 26 two-bedroom units in the existing school buildings with laundry and fitness amenities. A Phase II development of new town homes, offering an additional ten units, was planned to infill empty land along the Stanard Street elevation.
